SLPA HARGEISA FIRE RELIEF FUNDRAISER RECAP
Salam SLPA Family,
Thank you to all those who supported the SLPA Hargeisa Fire Relief fundraiser in partnership with the Amoud Foundation.
When a devastating fire unexpectedly took over the Waheen Market in Hargeisa on the eve of Ramadan, our community quickly mobilized in an effort to support our brothers and sisters in Somaliland. Through your generous donations, we were able to raise a total of $130,000 in just 30 days. This impressive total could not have been reached without the efforts of our SLPA community as well as our friends at Nominal. Nominal launched a 24 hour Hargeisa Relief campaign and donated 100% of their proceeds ($25,412.14) to our fundraiser. May Allah reward them for their generosity. The funds were used to support 240 (120 men, 120 women) merchants who were impacted by the fire. Each merchant received 500 USD. Cash recipients owned and operated different businesses in the Waheen Market. They included merchants for clothes, shoes, beauty supplies, home appliances, home decors, and street food vendors. Under the supervision of the National Committee for the Support of the Waheen Market, $500 was deposited into Zaad (Mobile Bank) accounts to merchants who worked in the fire. The remaining funds were used to support the Hargeisa Fire Department in developing their capacity to respond to emergencies and enhancing the effort’s of the department to raise awareness about fire safety. In order to reduce the likelihood of another fire incident, the Hargeisa Fire Department delivered fire safety training for all cash recipients. This training was free of cost to attendees and included training on how to use fire extinguishers and what to do in case of a fire.
Thank you for donating and taking the time to share the fundraising on your social media accounts. We would also like to thank @nominal and @amoudfoundation. Please continue supporting them. We look forward to our Ramadan fundraising next year.

The Waheen Market is home to over 5000+ businesses. It has been a support to the Hargeisa economy. Unfortunately. the fire broke out on the eve of first Ramadan when businesses were in their full bloom.
Goods worth millions of dollars were destroyed in the fire, but what matters most is the sheer vulnerability of the people who lost their bread and butter. They need your empathy and support to survive the month of Ramadan.
With the rise in unemployment and economic instability in the region, this fire has proved to be a test for the entire city. The lack of financial resources to feed families was already troublesome for the population of Hargeisa, and now, they seem to be on the brink of starvation.
Your generosity in this blessed month can help them heal from this loss. Remember the strife of your helpless brothers and sisters in Hargeisa this Ramadan. Extend your support to the neediest families with the Amoud Foundation. Every contribution matters.
They need your support more than ever before. Your generosity will help us to help them with emergency relief and sustenance. Contribute to their wellbeing today.
It's that time of the year again...our Annual Ramadan Fundraiser!
SLPA in partnership with Somaliland Lifemakers presents to you "Eid Clothing and Toy Drive" for the children of Borama!
It's hard to believe Ramadan has once again found us in a global pandemic. More losses, more lockdowns, and more grief. At the same time, we, at SLPA are hopeful. Hopeful that the people of Somaliland will indeed overcome as they have in the short and long past.
This year and every year for the past 3 Ramadans, SLPA has consistently relied on the generosity of our members and the greater Somaliland community around the world. Together we've supported causes that built our country and made life a little better for all. This year is no different.
Join us, as we bring smiles to the children's faces. The spirit of a child deserves to be joyous especially on Eid.
